💼 What a cost accountant actually does
A CMA focuses on the internal, decision-making side of finance: cost accounting, budgeting, pricing, cost control, performance management and strategic financial planning. Where a CA’s classic territory is audit, tax and financial reporting, a CMA’s is helping a business understand and manage its costs and profitability. CMAs work in manufacturing, services and consulting, and move into roles like cost controller, finance manager and, over time, CFO.
