Lawyers advise, argue and protect rights — but the daily work depends heavily on the branch. A litigator appears in court and drafts pleadings; a corporate lawyer negotiates contracts, mergers and compliance for companies; an in-house counsel guides a single organisation; and law graduates also enter the judiciary (through judicial services exams), civil services, policy and academia. The common core: careful reading, sharp reasoning and precise writing.

The path after Class 10

Any stream can lead to law, so choose on your wider interests. Humanities is a natural home — the reading, history and political-science exposure help — but Commerce and Science students become excellent lawyers too. What genuinely matters is strong English, reading comprehension and logical reasoning, all of which the entrance exams test.

The path after Class 12
