💼 What a physiotherapist actually does
A physiotherapist assesses movement and physical function, then uses exercise, manual therapy, and techniques like electrotherapy to restore it. They work in hospitals, rehab centres, sports teams, orthopaedic and neuro clinics, and increasingly in private practice and home care. Specialisations (via MPT) include sports, orthopaedics, neurology, paediatrics and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy.
🧭 The path after Class 10
Take Science with Biology (PCB). Biology underpins the anatomy and physiology that physiotherapy is built on; some universities admit PCM students too, but PCB is the cleaner path.
🎓 The path after Class 12
- BPT — Bachelor of Physiotherapy (4.5 years, incl. a 6-month internship) — the core degree; admission by university or state entrance, or merit, depending on the institution (NEET is not usually required).
- MPT — Master of Physiotherapy (2 years) — specialisation in sports, ortho, neuro, paediatrics or cardiorespiratory; strongly recommended for growth.
- Practice, sports or academia — clinics, hospitals, sports teams, your own practice, or teaching and research.

🧩 Is this career right for you?
Physiotherapy suits Social interests (a drive to help people directly) combined with Realistic (hands-on, physical work) and some Investigative (assessment and problem-solving). If you are patient, physically engaged and genuinely satisfied by someone’s slow return to movement, it fits well.
- BPT is the route; NEET is usually not required, unlike MBBS or BDS.
- An MPT specialisation (especially sports or neuro) drives growth and pay.
- Demand is rising with India’s sports, fitness and ageing-care needs.
- Best-fit interests: Social + Realistic + Investigative. You like hands-on work that helps people recover.
