What counselling for low mood can help with in Lucknow

You don’t need a diagnosis or a reason that looks big enough from outside. These are the things people bring when low mood has been weighing on them:

🌁
Loss of interest

Things you used to enjoy going flat — hobbies, people, plans. Often the earliest and most honest sign.

😶
Exhaustion & sleep

Tiredness sleep doesn’t fix, mornings getting harder, everything taking more effort than it should.

🧠
The harsh inner voice

Guilt, feeling like a burden, a running self-criticism you’d never accept aimed at anyone else.

😓
Withdrawing

Pulling back from friends and family without quite deciding to, and the loneliness that follows.

🌑
Numbness, not just sadness

Feeling flat or empty rather than tearful — the version of low mood that’s easiest to miss and dismiss.

🫀
Feeling stuck

Drift after a setback, a loss or a change — where low mood and feeling directionless feed each other.

What the pressure looks like here

The government-exam route dominates here, and what makes it different is how long it goes on. UPSC, UPPSC, SSC, banking, police recruitment, drawing aspirants from all over UP, with preparation measured in years rather than months. Vacancies get delayed. Exams get postponed. Results end up in court. A year can disappear for reasons that have nothing to do with you.

That’s an unusual thing to live inside. Sustained effort, no feedback, no visible progress, no date when it ends. Most ways of coping assume you can tell whether you’re getting closer. Here you often can’t, sometimes for years, while everyone you grew up with moves into jobs and marriages and their own flats.

The social weight is heavy too. In a lot of families the aspirant is carrying everyone’s hope, and each year makes it more expensive to say out loud that this might not work.

How it works

1
Take the free low-mood check

The PHQ-4 is a short, well-known low-mood and anxiety scale. Two minutes, no sign-up, nothing saved — it helps you see how heavy the fortnight has been.

2
Book your slot

Pick a time from the live calendar and get the video-call invite straight away. Video, voice or chat — your choice.

3
Talk it through

45 minutes with the same counsellor every time. You leave with one or two concrete things to try, not a sales pitch.

What’s already available in Lucknow, and what’s missing

There’s real clinical capacity in the city. Psychiatry at King George’s Medical University and at the RML institute, both right for diagnosis and serious need.

What an aspirant is dealing with usually isn’t clinical though. It’s years of uncertainty, isolation and family expectation nobody says out loud. That kind of thing gets left alone because it doesn’t look like illness. It just looks like preparing.

Sessions run online and stay private. First one is ₹249.

What this is, and what it isn’t

It’s counselling support, not treatment: confidential conversations about what you’re carrying and what might help. We don’t diagnose conditions and we don’t prescribe medication, and this isn’t an emergency service. If what you describe needs a psychiatrist, your counsellor will tell you so in the first session and help you find one. You won’t be sold a package instead.

What a session costs in Lucknow

₹499 for 45 minutes, and your first one is ₹249 with the code FIRST50. Private counselling in India usually runs ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 a session. You’re not signing up for a course of treatment — you’re booking one conversation, and you can stop after it.

Frequently asked questions

I have been preparing for years and feel stuck. Is that a mental health issue?

It doesn’t have to be a disorder to be worth talking about. Sustained uncertainty with no feedback is a genuinely difficult psychological situation, and it wears people down in ways that look like laziness or lost motivation from the outside and feel very different from the inside.

Everyone in my family is counting on this. Can I even talk about stopping?

Yes, and a session is a reasonable place to do it, precisely because it is outside the family. It is usually worth working out what you actually think before working out what to say at home — those are separate problems.

Is the session in Hindi?

Yes if you want it to be. Hindi or English, whichever you think in. For most aspirants in UP that’s Hindi, and there’s no reason a session should run in the harder language.

I can’t afford much. What does it cost?

A first session is ₹249 with code FIRST50, and sessions after that are ₹499 for 45 minutes. That is deliberately well below typical private counselling rates, which commonly run ₹1,500–₹3,000, because affordability is exactly what stops aspirants getting support.

Can counselling help with depression?

Often, yes — especially for mild to moderate low mood, where counselling, support and small changes make a real difference. More severe depression sometimes needs medication alongside, and a counsellor will tell you honestly.

I feel numb rather than sad. Is that still worth talking about?

Yes. Loss of feeling — not enjoying anything, feeling flat or empty — is a core feature of depression and is often missed. It’s very much worth talking through.
